FAQs

Our familiar liturgy is relaxed, so worship experiences are warm, casual, and intimate. Our community is friendly, unpretentious, and genuinely glad that you are with us. Dress the way that is comfortable for you.

COTTC holds community as a core value and practice. We express this through generous welcome, celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion. Because faith calls us into the world, our worship meaningfully intersects with our social justice work. We continue to learn with and from families with children, guiding us to welcome people of all backgrounds, orientations, identities, and stages of belief. We encourage questions from long-time believers and those exploring faith for the first time.

Over 60 years ago, COTTC was formed by the collaboration of St. James Congregational (UCC) and Second Evangelical United Brethren Church (UMC). We seek to honor both traditions, following faith and organizational practices from each. Our blend of UMC and UCC simultaneously keeps us connected to each while also making us something unlike either.

The Annual Blessing of the Animals is one of our most beloved traditions at Church of the Three Crosses. Each year, members and neighbors are invited to bring their animal companions (dogs, cats, birds, and the occasional reptile) to receive an individual blessing from our pastor. The service honors the bond between people and the animals who share their lives, and celebrates the wider community of creatures we share the earth with.

Whether your pet is a lifelong companion or a recent rescue, all are welcome. Leashes, carriers, and tanks encouraged.

So it was: God made all kinds of wild animals, and cattle and everything that crawls on the ground, and God saw that this was good. (Genesis 1:25, The Inclusive Bible)
