Service & Social Justice
This congregation has a long history of service and social justice for the surrounding community and the world. Part of the church’s Statement of Ministry states: “We are called to seek and respond to the Word and the will of God. We hold it to be the mission of this church to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in our community, nation and world... and strive for truth, justice and peace everywhere.”
We carry on a tradition of service and social justice that began when one of our predecessor congregations helped found a neighborhood hospital. In the summer of 1968, Church of the Three Crosses provided sanctuary to peace demonstrators during the Democratic National Convention amidst a city in turmoil.
“God has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. God has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
Luke 4:18-19
Service & Social Justice
We strive to make a positive difference in the world amidst so many needs and challenges.
Deborah’s Place: Each last Tuesday of the month (September through June) the church provides a meal to the residents of Deborah’s Place, about four blocks from the church building. Deborah’s Place is a supportive housing facility that provides a home to women who have been homeless.
Pride Parade: A contingent of the congregation marches in Chicago’s annual Pride Parade along with the other congregations of the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches.
Our Building as Mission Space: Throughout the week our building, with its flexible and multi-use space, is rented by a variety of neighborhood organizations including support groups, theater companies and Old Town’s Kindermusik. For facility information, go to the “contact” section.
Wedding Space: Wedding space for all couples seeking marriages or civil unions.
